A reducibly complex mousetrap John H. McDonald Department of Biological Sciences University of Delaware Creationist Michael Behe attracted a lot of attention with his advocacy of the "intelligent design" argument. He makes the claim that certain biochemical processes are "irreducibly complex": they involve multiple proteins, and removing any one of them would destroy the function [...]

The Walter Arndt Lecture: The Autonomy of Biology. Ernst Mayr   Science as we know it is the product of developments in the 17th and 18th centuries. What was conceived as science is indicated by the names Galileo, Kepler, Newton, Descartes, and Leibniz. It was the glorious rise of the physical sciences advancing from triumph to triumph. [...]

Absurdities in Modern Physics: A Solution. by Paul Marmet   1 - Promulgation of Absurdities 1-1 The Copenhagen Interpretation. All humans are continuously surrounded, every day of their life, by real facts of nature. We believe in the existence of galaxies, stars, the sun and the moon and the earth. Nobody denies the real existence [...]

A Thousand Years Before Darwin, Islamic Scholars Were Writing About Natural Selection.   Professors are starting to orient Charles Darwin within a rich history of people from all cultures who have grappled with the mechanisms of life. By Shayla Love In the summer of 1837, Charles Darwin drew a rudimentary sketch in his notebook, lines of ink that [...]

New Universe of Miniproteins Is Upending Cell Biology and Genetics.   Mice put human runners to shame. Despite taking puny strides, the rodents can log 10 kilometers or more per night on an exercise wheel. But the mice that muscle biologist Eric Olson of the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas and colleagues [...]

Protein-mediated Selective Enclosure of Early Replicators Inside of Membranous Vesicles: First Step Towards Cell Membranes   Abstract Containment in cell membranes is essential for all contemporary life, and apparently even the earliest life forms had to be somehow contained. It has been postulated that random enclosure of replicating molecules inside of spontaneously assembled vesicles would [...]
